No More Excuses!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Yes, I am alive and yes, it’s been busy in the shop and with cookies. Sadly, it hasn’t been too busy for me to write, I just haven’t really been too motivated to actually put pen to paper. Or fingers to keyboard.

We’ve been working on some new cookies and I don’t know, they haven’t been all that exciting to me, so that may be the cause for my lack of motivation. Dave and I have also been working on some home improvement projects and the house has been a dusty, holy disaster. So that may account for the procrastination as well. Oh, and making all the preparations for the Hoe Down in 3 weeks!!

Daisy is doing really well, she’s been spayed and got her shots and is a natural fit. Except that she’s still working on housebreaking. We’ve thrown out one rug already, it’s challenging. I never thought I’d see the day that Lily would be the well behaved grown up, but it has arrived! I’m trying to get her to help Daisy learn to be a super good dog. (she’s already a good dog, we’re just working on the SUPER part, ie: no peeing on the floor!!)

Anyway, I have been taking pictures of all the crap going on, like interesting meals, and cookies. But for some reason I haven’t been documenting the home improvement stuff. I’ll have all the after pictures, just not so many befores.

So let’s look at some cookies today:

Inspired by a recent custom order and our Hoe Down invitations, we created a Cowboy collection;

cowboy cookies

Included in this collection there is a horse, cowboy, sheriffs badges, boots, horse shoes and a 10 gallon hat.

Sea Creatures

We’ve had this collection on our site for a while, but we tweaked the colors on the Sea Creatures collection. I love the green octopus!!

baby block cookies

We had a custom order of three different designs for a child’s first birthday. A customized block.

baby bunny cookie

A bunny made to look like the Princess bunny on the invitation.

teddy bear cookie

And a custom bear to round out the bunch. I mixed a custom pink to match the invitation as well. The customer’s bear had a personalized inscription curned on the bears belly that said “Aili is 1″. I don’t know why, but lately it seems people want A LOT of copy on their cookies. I’m not a fan. It’s just too much, and very redundant (IMO). But, you gotta give the people what they want…within reason!

hogs and kisses

We’ve been making tons of small batches of so many different cookies, which keeps things interesting, but ugh, all that color mixing takes up so much time. A few boxes of Hogs and Kisses the other day. Love this collection. It’s like a piggy version of Hello Kitty!

peach baby carraige cookies

Peach baby carriages for a shower a couple of weeks ago. Love these kinds of jobs, simple and straightforward.

political cookies

We added the hat to the “bi-partisan” collection. It was Dave’s idea, and I think it works really well.

strawberry birthday cake

I had an order for a 6 inch double layer strawberry cake.

strawberry bday cake

A perfectly simple Birthday inscription.  Plus, strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream is so good!!

tent cookies

We had a fun order for some camping cookies. We made a tent with the flaps open and some fish cookies from our Gone Fishin’ collection. (which may have inspired us to create a fun camping collection for next Summer!!)

Camping cookies

I really like these cookies, and I’m not a huge fan of non-girly cookies, but these were fun.

I’ll wrap up today with a super fun baby shower that we “catered” this weekend.

blue cake

Here’s the cake, a 6 inch double layer square, vanilla cake with chocolate filling and tinted vanilla buttercream.

blue brown and green cake

My favorite, polka dots and beads. (really the only thing I’m good at!)

daisy cookie favors

The favors, green and blue daisies.

blue and green baby shower

The cupcakes had vanilla butter cream, tinted in blue and green with lime green sprinkles and light blue sugar pearls. We made the stand out of foam blocks covered with coordinating paper and ribbons. It took about an hour to cover the blocks. Luckily, we were able to save the foam floral blocks from another party that we did.

blue and green baby shower setup

Here’s the table set up. Dave and I delivered and set up on Sunday morning. The shower was at the the golf club at Okemo.

So, I will try my very best to be more consistent here and keep you up to date. I’ve got lots of pictures from a recent Swap that I participated in, a delicious salmon dinner that Dave and I had last week, doggies, and the new house stuff. There’s lots of content, I just have to get crackin!!

Hope you all are doing well, and if you follow me on Twitter, sorry, I may be the worlds worst tweeter. No excuses, I’ll get on it..

Your cake, cupcakes, and cookies look absolutely amazing for the shower. I love the color combo and how th cookies on top of the cake tie the cookie favors into the design. What a beautiful dessert presentation!

I was worried about you. So glad all is well! I love, love, love the cupcake and favor table! I am considering having another child just so I can have the cupcakes and favors for my shower. :o)

Yah! No more neon monkeys! (Which were interesting, but they made me sad after a while, because they were *always* there.)

Those octopuses are adorable. And the cakes look beautiful. You inspired me to take up cakes (after you inspired me to take up cookies) when you showed how lovely and elegant the simply decorated buttercream cakes are. Yours seem to shout how delicious they are, instead of “I’m so cuckoo, look at all my shapes and colors,” like the fondant cakes do.

I love reading your tips and tricks, when you have the time to share them. For example, how do you do the little stars? They are too small to draw, I think. And they’re clearly not sprinkles. Do you drop a dot and then pull the edges out? Just curious.

I was getting worried about you. I am glad to see you back online. I look forward to all of your new creations. They really inspire me to want to try new things. I have bought the stand mixer, many different books, everything needed to make these and I have yet to try. I guess I am just a scary cat. Anyhoo back you… Everything is just wonderful as always! LOVE the cookies!
