Attempting to Step It UP

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Since I started lurking around on Twitter, I’ve found some truly amazing cookie artists. And this is making me feel somewhat inadequate. So, I’m trying to up the detail on the cookies, take more risks and challenge myself a bit more.

A client called last week and wanted something for her sister’s bridal shower, which had no real theme, but the bride likes fashion, and Tory Burch. Of course, Dave had NO idea what a Tory Burch was so I enlightened him. Although I’m not so sure he really knows now.

I searched online for a current bag that might make a good cookie and I found this super cute hot pink number. I really wanted to do the pink on pink for the detail, but naturally, the client had other ideas. Pink and orange.

My days of fancy handbags are long behind me, my new obsessions are light cubes and kopykake projectors, so looking at pretty bags is a much missed past time. (not missed all THAT much, I still wouldn’t trade the peace of mind in not having to worry about a parking space for all the Kate Spade bags in the world……but a classic Chanel?….)

What I had to work with: handbag image and logo. I had to free hand pipe the Tory Burch logo, which wasn’t too difficult. Luckily, the order was only for 25 cookies.

The color is not quite right in the photo, but here’s a close up of the hardware on the bag. Piped in white and then painted with super fancy gold.

Real gold!

The cookies are drying tonight and I’m thinking that tomorrow I’m going to do a little more detail, perhaps some stitching on the top trim.

****Yes, yes! These are for Hopsy’s Birthday! I only know what my Sales Manager (ahem) tells me. And he told me that they were for a bridal shower. Only after he got of the phone with H did he tell me what they were really for. He mixed up clients! Sorry for the confusion****

I sketched out an adorable poodle design today, so keep an eye out for that in the coming days. Also, in case anyone was wondering we had an amazing Tuesday in the Bake Shoppe. We’re heading into week 4 of good, steady cupcake sales. Yay, I think it may finally be happening!!

Its always easy to put yourself down, you have an amazing product and you actually have a viable business, some of the things that people create are just art and will never be able to be sold!

Your cookies are wonderful, I’m glad you’re pushing yourself to try new things and learn more though, thats what keeps it fresh!!

I feel the same, I see all these amazing cake artists and wonder if I can make a go of it! I dont think I’ll ever be on the food network, but I want to make cakes that taste wonderful, and make people happy and if that happens I’ll be chuffed to bits!

Laura, these are fantastic! Love all the details…very impressive.

Also, I have been behind in my Blog Reader and am working on catching up. Here’s my catch up for you: I love the door/table. I have always wanted a door/table. I have the door already (right now it’s functioning as the back board for a daybed/couch) from an old family farm house. Looking forward to what you decide…glass or not, refinishing or not, etc.

I love these cookies! Where in Vermont is the shop located? I’d love to stop by and discuss a possible order of various dog breed cookies.
